Rationale
The workshop, organized by the Instituto de Astronomía (UNAM), will take place from 2nd to 7th of November, 2008, in Mérida, Mexico.
The GTC and its Day One instruments OSIRIS and CanariCam, will be available for the Spanish, Mexican and Florida astronomical communities at the beginning of 2009.
A full knowledge of these Day One instrument characteristics, their practical use and the practical data reduction procedures, allow achieving an optimal scientific exploitation and obtaining the best results from the special features and observing modes that distinguish these instruments.
The aim of this workshop is to provide hands-on training ranging from the initial steps of preparing the observations, using tools such as exposure time estimators and mask designers, to obtaining the final calibrated data using specific techniques and data reduction programs.
