IAU PhD Prize 2018

Dear members of the massive star community,

The G2 commission on massive stars would like to encourage you to submit a candidacy for the IAU PhD prize. If you are aware of a recent PhD graduate who has carried out exceptional work in the past year (PhD defended between 16 December 2017 and 15 December 2018), please click on the link in the message below from IAU general secretary Teresa Lago before 15 December 2018. The relevant division is Division G, Stars and Stellar Physics. You will need three people to send in a letter of reference.

This is a great way to commend the work of a young astronomer and to keep our field visible within the IAU.

With very best regards
Nicole St-Louis
IAU G2 Vice president
On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the G2 commission on massive stars

Dear colleague, as you know the IAU has created in 2016 a new prize - the IAU PhD Prize. Each IAU Division has, once a year, the opportunity to award its own prize to the candidate it feels has carried out the most remarkable work in the previous year (i.e. a PhD Thesis which has been defended between the 16 December in the previous year, and 15 December this year).

The IAU PhD Prize is open to candidates from any country, regardless of whether the country has an IAU National Membership. The objective is to recognise outstanding scientific achievement in astrophysics around the world even at that early stage in the career.

I would like to count on you in alerting potential candidates, in your country or institution, for this opportunity since the deadline for applications for the 2018 IAU PhD Prize will be 15th December
The application form is available here: https://www.iau.org/submissions/phd-prize/
The conditions and details for the application are available in the IAU webpage : https://www.iau.org/science/grants_prizes/phd_prize/

I thank you in advance.
Best regards, Teresa
