Optical Images of Barred Spiral Galaxies

Optical Images of Barred Spiral Galaxies from the Shapley Ames Catalog

We present optical images of barred spiral galaxies from the Shapley Ames Catalog observed with the 2.12m Optical Telescope in San Pedro Mártir, Baja California, México. Copyright : Instituto de Astronomia, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. INDAUTOR (MEXICO) number 03-1999-012611061500-14.

The images were taken with a CCD camera 1024 x 1024 pixels. We show two images of each galaxy (with two or three exceptions). One is taken with a narrow band filter centered on 6562 Angstroms and receving light only from 6522 to 6602 Angstroms. This wavelength is characteristic of the emission from the Hydrogen atom. The second image was taken centered on the 8040 Angstroms and receiving light in the interval from 7220 to 8860 Angstroms in order to observe the red continuum. The narrow band filter images was exposed during 300 seconds, while the broad band filter images was exposed only 60 seconds. For more details see the article published in Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica, Volume 32, page 89, Year 1996.
